SPECIFICATION

The BLACK TROUSER UNIFORM BELT is a reproduction of the belt worn by US Army personnel with both utility and dress uniforms throughout the Cold War.

During the Second World War it was typical for enlisted men to wear an open faced belt, whilst closed face buckles were reserved for officers; however, in the mid 1950s the army would adopt the closed face “Army Trouser Belt” across most uniforms, including OG-107 utilities, for both officers and enlisted personnel.

Whilst the OG-107 Fatigue uniform was first introduced as utilities for work and combat, it would also be adopted for clerical work. When worn on garrison the uniform would be starched and pressed, and worn with a shined brass buckle, black webbing belt, the same belt worn with dress uniform. In combat, some soldiers would opt for an open faced style belt, likely a purchase item, but others only had the issued closed face style and so wore that for the full duration of their deployment.

The simple, roller-style buckle found on this belt means it can fit a wide range of waist sizes, thus reducing the number of different sizes needed to be produced. The cotton/ nylon fabric, which was introduced in line with wider adoption of synthetic and blended fabrics post WWII, is lightweight but redoubtably enduring.
