The U.S Army D-1 mechanic jacket was issued during the same period as the B-6 flight jacket. It was designed for grounds crew often working in harsh weather conditions, however, because of it's relatively simple and less bulky design, it was soon adopted by pilots who would wear it over their A-2 flight jackets for layering warmth whilst still retaining ease of movement.

Staying true to it's vintage counterpart, the body of the Type D-1 is made from a 10mm mouton with leather details that are made up of pigment and anline finished horsehide and aniline finished cowhide creating a unique contrast of four different colour leathers.

In order to stay true to our vintage sample, leather trimmings of the seams and the front zipper are hand-painted in seal brown, the same colour as the body. The silhouette is also slightly shorter length and a more relaxed fit, proving why it was a more favoured jacket by pilots.
