The rivalry between Army and Navy Academy football teams is one of the most storied and intense in U.S. college sports. The feud dates back to 1890 when the two teams first met on the football field. Known as the Army-Navy Game, it has since become an annual tradition and a highly revered event.
Supporters of West Point cadets would shout simple rallying cries such as “Go Army!” to encourage their team, and by the early twentieth century it had become a recognized chant. The full phrase that later became traditional is “Go Army, Beat Navy!”
