The MILITARY SHORTS / KHAKI CHINO are made from the same custom chino cloth used in our MP23102 TROUSERS, COTTON, KHAKI, 1941; however, these shorts are based on the later 1945 pattern. In contrast to the earlier model, the 1945 pattern reflects a more simplified construction. Details such as the double-welt pockets seen on the 1941 specification were replaced with a more economical single-welt finish, reducing production time while maintaining durability.

Many surviving examples of chino shorts from the 1940s are the result of field modifications, with standard-issue trousers cut down to suit hotter climates. This model takes its cue from a vintage pair derived from the 1945 pattern khaki trousers, often referred to as the “45 Khaki.”
Such adaptations were common in the Pacific and other warm regions, where full-length trousers proved impractical. In the WWII Pacific theater, it was not unusual for soldiers to cut down trousers into shorts or shorten chambray shirts, modifying issued garments to improve ventilation and ease of movement in the heat.
While informed by original cut-down examples, the pattern has been redrafted specifically for shorts. The proportions have been adjusted throughout, resulting in a cleaner silhouette rather than a direct conversion of full-length trousers.
