DOUBLE-KNEE WORK TROUSERS

The DOUBLE-KNEE WORK TROUSERS are made from heavy cotton canvas and feature reinforced front panels to reduce wear at the knees. This design originated in the early 20th century, when garments for labourers began incorporating extra layers of fabric in high-wear areas. By the 1940s, it had become a common feature across industries, especially in trades such as carpentry, farming, and construction, where kneeling and crouching placed constant strain on clothing.

The extra panel over the knees helped extend the life of the trousers by protecting the fabric in areas most prone to damage. Over time, the design also allowed for added functionality, such as fitting knee pads or providing insulation. In the latter half of the 20th century, double-knee trousers moved beyond the job site and were adopted by subcultures in skateboarding and streetwear.
