Keeping its head when things get hot! The WELDER MECHANIC CAP is based on a mid-century protective workwear design whose effectiveness has kept it in use by welders even today. Cut from split cowhide, the leather provides natural resistance to heat, sparks, and abrasion, qualities that made split leather a standard material in industrial protective gear. The cap is finished with a cotton sateen lining for comfort and durability.

Split leather is produced by feeding the hide through a splitting machine, which separates the lower hide layer from the top grain. Although the top grain layer is removed in this process, the remaining lower hide layer yields a tough, fibrous leather that is durable in situations involving fire and friction.
