VEST, FLYING WINTER, TYPE C-2

The VEST, FLYING WINTER, TYPE C-2 is made from 14-gauge wool knit and features a 40s bell-shaped front zipper with a brass finish and herringbone twill cotton tape. Designed to maximize insulation while avoiding additional bulk, the C-2 vest has a close-fitting body and raglan sleeves, designed to be layered underneath the Type A-2 leather flight jacket. The raglan sleeves and zip-through front make the vest easy to slide on and off when layering.

This vest was developed in 1934 for the Air Corps, intended specifically to be worn under flying jackets and suits. The C-2 provides a hugging fit with narrow, tapered sleeves. This design helps extend the useful temperature range of any outer garment by an additional 10-15 degrees Fahrenheit, making it particularly effective when worn with the A-2, originally a Summer Flying Jacket. The vest's design helps eliminate the discomfort of transitioning between different temperature environments, making it indispensable for maintaining warmth.

This model of the VEST, FLYING WINTER, TYPE C-2 is detailed with mixed ribbing at the cuffs and hem, a rare specification of the C-2. Completing the vest is a single patch pocket.
