About

The Type G-1 is the first in the line of 55J14 jackets which were introduced in 1947. The G-1 marked the evolution of the M422A used during the Second World War and it remains a symbolic part of naval history with it often being worn during ceremonial occasions.

The G-1 has been through several iterations with the 55J14 (AER) contract being the first jacket to be labelled a G-1 jacket amongst several later specs. The timeless design and high-quality components that were used in crafting the M422A were poured into the G-1, while the later models went a separate path.

Cementing itself firmly as a functional combat garment, the 55J14 G-1 would see extensive service throughout the Korean War. After its years of service, the 55J14 would ultimately become a treasured piece of uniform amongst USN carrier soldiers.

Our TYPE G-1 REAL McCOY MFG. CO. / 55J14 has been faithfully made from a vegetable-tanned goatskin with an aniline finish. The jacket interior is lined with nylon woven cloth. Wool ribbed details are included on the cuffs and hem. The jacket is closed with a black oxided 50s oval zip on cotton taping.
