Between 1931 and 1943 there were a total of 18 manufacturers contracted to produce the TYPE A-2. Rough Wear Clothing Co. secured five contracts and is estimated to have crafted 120,000 of the 750,000 A-2 jackets that were made.
The 27752 marks the final contract number made by Rough Wear and would result in 50,000 pieces being made. This final contract marked a significant point in modern clothing design, with techniques being applied that were scarcely seen at the time. The jacket is made with a forwards sloping collar and crafted using three-dimensional patterning, with angled shoulders and sleeves.
The TYPE A-2 / ROUGHWEAR 27752 is made from vegetable-tanned, aniline-finished horsehide. This piece features a cotton broadcloth lining, a 1940s-style bell-shaped nickel front zipper with cotton tape, wool ribbing, and is constructed using cotton thread.
