Split leather was often used for protective gear worn during welding, however in recent years, due to the lack of supply and demand for such thick hides, it has become more and more challenging to find leather that can be split.

Split Leather is processed leather (5mm or thicker cowhide leather) that has been split down the middle to create a top grain split and flesh split. Although the grain surface is scratched and unusable for clothing, by splitting the leather in half, you get a tough fibred leather which is very durable in situations that involve fire and friction.

The jacket details are inspired by early model welders jackets which featured chin straps and raglan sleeves.
