COTTON JACQUARD ROBE

About
The COTTON JACQUARD ROBE is made from a jacquard weave, a technique that is capable of producing the most intricate designs, and commonly seen in Native trade blankets.
The jacquard loom was introduced to America in the 19th century during a period of machine made blankets flooding the market. This jacquard technology would revolutionise the way factories could produce patterned blankets, a stark contrast to the plain blankets that would have been produced on less progressive looms of the time.
As well as being able to produce the traditional imagery and symbols of the Native population, the jacquard loom blanket was found to be thicker, softer and more weather resistant in comparison. This is what has led the cloth to become such a cherished piece of American history.
Our COTTON JACQUARD ROBE has been cut with a shawl collar and is bound with a hand twisted rope belt. The rope is wound with large count cotton yarn and then dyed, blending the colours together. Finishing features include, shell buttons two patch pockets at the waist and single chest pocket.
