Our NECKERCHIEF, MAN'S, OD 109 has been made from a soft handled 6.5oz cotton cloth. Our sinker knit fabric replicates stretchy jersey fabric that was developed shortly after the beginning of the Vietnam War.

The introduction of the neckerchief to US soldiers followed Australia's entry into the war. Australian combat units utilised an absorbent cotton neckerchief, which served as the inspiration for its adoption within the US army. Subsequently, a formal request was made to the Tropical Combat Uniform board.

Following the request, the experimental neckerchief would be meticulously crafted using cotton T-shirt material, dyed in OG (olive green), and knitted in a durable tubular, double-ply design.

Prior to widespread distribution among troops, these neckerchiefs underwent rigorous testing. The Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol of the 1st Infantry Division, operating in the III Corps area of the Republic of Vietnam, trialed the neckerchief for a period of approximately 1 to 2 months.

After completing the trial period, feedback was resoundingly positive and it was deemed acceptable for combat units. In supporting production, their responses were that beyond managing perspiration, it provided crucial sun protection during the day and defence against insects during the night.

The stretchy and absorbent nature of this versatile neckerchief proved to be an invaluable asset in the challenging tropical jungle conditions of Vietnam.
