The BUCO TEE / WELCOME RACING FANS! is made from 8 oz cotton jersey with a tubular-knit body and sewn entirely with cotton thread. An embroidered patch is stitched to the left chest, while the rear graphic is hand finished in rubber ink at our Kobe headquarters using traditional manual techniques. The result is a print with the texture and depth associated with mid century American racing tees.
The design references the Indianapolis 500, held each May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Indiana and widely regarded as one of the most important motor races in the world. By the 1960s, BUCO was supplying helmets not only for motorcycle competitions but also for major car racing events, including the Indy 500 and Formula One, being worn by two-time F1 champion Graham Hill. Period photographs from the 1962 Indy 500 show several drivers wearing BUCO helmets, and Hill would win the race in 1966 wearing one too, placing the iconic BUCO name firmly within the professional racing scene of the era.
