PCU stands for "Protective Combat Uniform", the successor of the 1980s ECWCS (Extended Cold Weather Clothing System). The Protective Combat Uniform is divided into 7 levels, Level 1 being a long sleeve undershirt to Level 7 being this extremely warm parka. The uniform was designed to either be layered or worn by itself. The PCU level system was designed to provide a broad range of protection and to be able withstand the harshest environments during modern warfare.
This jacket is a reproduction of an early first generation (GEN 1) level 7 of the PCU system. Most first generation level 7 jackets available on the vintage market today feature water repellent zippers on front and hand pockets. Our jacket however, features a Vislon front zipper instead with only water repellent zips on the hand pockets. These details are replicated from an original jacket in our archive which is identified as an early prototype model.
The Parka, Extreme Cold Weathers silhouette is shorter than last season's Level 7 Type 2 (nicknamed the Monster Parka) and is more suitable for town use.
